· George Condo  (1957 – now)

George Condo, 2007

George Condo is a contemporary Artist in the United States who often remixes paintings by ancient masters into the background of contemporary American culture. His work often features extruded cartoon faces and some improvisational exaggerated cubism. He applied the drawing skills of old art masters to contemporary oil paintings, and combines classic elements. It was an unprecedented innovation for its time.

I really like the style of his works. It is eerie, twisted, humorous, It always leaves a deep impression after watching it. His works incorporate many classic painting styles, including abstract styles, pop styles, surrealism and so on. George Condo integrates various elements well, and he adds his own views on things, forming his own discernable style.

· Andy Warhol (1928-1987)

Andy Warhol, 1967

Andy Warhol, 1968

Andy Warhol, who is well known for his pop-style art works, is an influential icon in modern and contemporary art and popular culture. He turned popular figures and objects that appeared constantly on television and in the public eye into recurring images in paintings. Warhol dealt with his work in this way, using repeated patterns over and over again: flowers, bananas, cans, stars, etc. The more the image is repeated, the more public see the image, the less sensitive becomes. Eventually, it becomes subconscious. This also makes pop art a more accessible presence.

I think it is also a kind of remix. Based on the original object transformation color, permutation and combination, to form a new form of expression. His works also have their own distinct style, and with innovative artistic expression methods, make art popular among the public, is undoubtedly successful.

My Idea

Pablo Picasso is often quoted as saying: “Good artists copy, great artists steal.” At the same time, Kleon, A. (2012) believes that great artists draw inspiration from multiple sources. They can adapt and develop their own style to suit the projects they are currently working on. I think a lot of great works are based on experience. The remix is not an exact copy, but is based on the absorption of the visual expression and image of the original work. Personal ideas were added to the creation, re-imagination and interpretation, the construction of new work. Therefore, if we want to succeed, it is necessary to reflect and examine the work of our predecessors. We need to keep learning from our predecessors. Standing on the shoulders of giants can see further.
